Georgia ILB Roquan Smith Scouting Report

Roquan Smith

Height: 6’1

Weight: 225

2017 Butkus Award

2017 AP SEC Defensive Player of the Year

What I Love

I love the way that Roquan Smith attacks the ball.  He tracks the ball carrier, fights through traffic, and makes the tackle.  I’ve seen so many of these plays when I break down Smith’s film.

What I Hate

Because he bit to the inside, Smith is out of position to make a play on the ball.  Showing patience on the run would have saved the touchdown.

Pass Coverage:

Roquan Smith is manned up with a WR running a post route into the end zone.  Not only is he able to keepsake with the receiver, but he also makes a play on the ball that could have been a touchdown. Incredible speed and an instinctive play.

Player Comparison: Ohio State LB A.J. Hawk

I think this comparison just makes sense.  Throughout his pro career with the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals, Hawk was all over the field making plays, which is what I see in Roquan Smith.  There are some big shoes to fill with this comparison, but I firmly believe that Roquan Smith is one that can fill them with ease.

Projected Draft Pick: Top Fifteen

Roquan Smith is a pure ball hawk.  No matter where he comes off the board, there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s going to contribute at a high level.  He’s an instinctive player that’s going to be talked about all season long in 2018.
