Zach Allen Scouting Report

What I Like:

Quick Processing

Zach Allen displays excellent mental processing on this play. He’s able to identify the play immediately, keys the ball quickly, and takes an excellent route to cut off the ball carrier and assist with the tackle. This play really stood out to me when I first saw it.

What I Dislike:

Missed Reads

Zach Allen is inconsistent on his ability to make the correct reads in defending the RPO. On this play, Allen is late to make the read and is quickly out of position to make a play on the ball. He must show an improved ability to make the correct read quicker at the next level.

Strength On The Edge

Zach Allen displays above average strength that he uses to find his way through the offensive line. On this play, Allen is able to drive through the right tackle and get him off balance, which opens the hole for Allen to quickly attack the quarterback.

Overall Breakdown

Zach Allen displays above average ability to make a quick read and attack the ball carrier. Shows excellent ability to put himself in the right position to disrupt the pocket and make a play on the ball. Displays above average strength on the edge to get by the tackle and attack the quarterback. Shows an excellent knack for the ball. Shows inconsistency to make the quick accurate read on the edge and could struggle against the Read Pass Option at the next level.

Draft Round Prediction

Late-First To Early-Second

Zach Allen is a prototype for the defensive end position. Played some interior defensive line, as well as some outside linebacker at Boston College, but his strength is on the edge. Could find himself cracking the top-fifteen in April, but most likely a prospect that will come off the board in the 20’s to 30’s.
