Clelin Ferrell Scouting Report

What I Like:

Relentless Pursuit

Clelin Ferrell displays a fantastic ability to quickly key the ball and attack. On this play, Ferrell works his way back inside on a stunt, keys the ball once he is around the left guard, and then shows fantastic athletic ability to attack the quarterback as he’s falling down.

What I Dislike:

Key The Ball

Clelin Ferrell displays average ability to key the ball at the line of scrimmage, but is able to make up for it with his athletic ability. On this play, Ferrell makes a quick read, but misses the tackle. He’s able to get up and assist with the tackle to end the play, but could have pinned the Panthers back with a tackle for loss and a 2nd and long.

Elusiveness Off The Line

Clelin Ferrell shows an excellent ability at working past the offensive lineman. Ferrell displays an excellent use of hands and a swim move to get by the left tackle and work his way back inside. He keys the quarterback and attacks to make a huge play here.

Overall Breakdown

Clelin Ferrell displays fantastic ability to key the ball quickly and attack the ball carrier. Shows excellent range and maintains a great balance to make a play on the way to the ground. Has excellent elusiveness off the line and displays excellent use of his hands to elude the offensive lineman. Ferrell keys the ball quickly, but must show improvement and consistency in making the correct read. Has a fantastic ability to make up for an incorrect read with his athletic ability, but will struggle at the next level without improvement.

Draft Round Prediction

First Round

Clelin Ferrell is a fantastic edge rusher that will find himself drafted in the first round on athletic ability alone. I have as a defensive end, but he’s athletic enough to also play linebacker in a 3-4 defense. I believe that Clelin Ferrell can come off the board as early as fifth, but more likely will be taken in the middle of the first round.
