Riley Ridley Scouting Report

What I Like:

Route Running

This is a terrific route by Riley Ridley. He’s not facing tight coverage on this play, so he must use his above average ability to cut in and out of routes, as well as his above average ability to read the defender and predict his next move. Ridley cuts towards the sideline, waits for the defender to bite, and then cuts back towards the end zone to high point the ball for the touchdown.

What I Dislike:

Blocking Effort

Ridley displays average at best ability to block defenders. On this play, even though the quarterback is able to run for the first down, Ridley appears lost and unengaged with the defender. Rather than holding his block and giving the quarterback an opportunity at the end zone, they’re forced to settle for a new set of downs instead.

Fighting For Yards

I love Riley Ridley’s awareness and effort on this play. He uses his above average footwork to create separation on the route. From there, Ridley shows high awareness that he didn’t touch the ground and continues on to fight for the additional yards, and more importantly, the first down.

Overall Breakdown

Possesses above average route running to create separation from the defender and give his quarterback the perfect window for the pass. Displays an excellent catch radius and an excellent ability to high point the ball for the catch. Shows a terrific ability to fight for yards and has an excellent second gear. Has a poor blocking effort that will bite him at the next level.

Draft Round Prediction

Third Round

Riley Ridley is an above average wide receiver, but has flaws in his game. Has ideal size for the position, so an excellent performance at the NFL Combine could boost his stock. Look for Ridley to come off the board to a team that needs an outside receiver to stretch the field.
