Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Rashan Gary

Height: 6’5

Weight: 283 lbs

Two-Time First-Team All-Big Ten Honoree by Coaches. Two-Time Second-Team All-Big Ten Honoree by Media. Two-Time Second-Team All-Big Ten by AP. 2017 Richard Katcher Award. Two-Time All-Big Ten Academic Honoree. Consensus Five-Star Prospect.

What I Like:

Tenacity

I love the effort by Rashan Gary here. He displays excellent ability to sniff out the play and identify the ball carrier. From there, he keys on him and attacks over an offensive lineman.

What I Dislike:

Mental Processing

On this play, I just wish Rashan Gary could have processed and keyed the ball quicker than he did. As a result, the quarterback is able to pickup 5 yards to make it a manageable 2nd and 5.

Instincts

Rashan Gary displays above average instincts on this play. Gary is able to get leverage on the tackle with nice hand placement, while keeping one hand free. Once the window is open, Gary breaks off to attack the quarterback. Rashan Gary doesn’t get the sack on this play, but he certainly contributed to it.

Overall Breakdown

Rashan Gary is a tremendous edge player that is pro-ready. Displays excellent tenacity and effort to attack the ball carrier and complete the tackle. Shows above average instincts to manipulate defenders and find a way into the pocket. Needs to process plays quicker and trust his instincts more often.

Draft Round Prediction

Top-Ten Selection

I have Rashan Gary listed as my best overall 4-3 true defensive end. From what I’ve seen on film, I don’t see his skillset translating to a 3-4 defense, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a few teams try him out in private workouts.

2019 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Alabama RB Josh Jacobs

Published

on

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Josh Jacobs

Height: 5’10

Weight: 216 lbs

2018 SEC Championship MVP. Fifteen total touchdowns in 2018 as a Junior, including one on special teams. Four-Star Prospect.

What I Like:

Quick Mental Processing

On this play, Josh Jacobs displays tremendous ability to process the play and find the open hole for a first down. Jacobs shows excellent ability to manipulate coverage through shoulders, hips, and footwork.

What I Dislike:

Pass Protection

Josh Jacobs shows average ability in pass protection. On this play, Jacobs is off-balance and whiffs on the block entirely. Must show more patience and improved mechanics to initiate block and give the quarterback a clean pocket to throw from.

Receiving Ability

This particular play is more of a rarity from Josh Jacobs as he’s usually in the flats or on a quick curl route in front of the quarterback. Jacobs displays excellent ability on this play to track the ball and make the catch. Shows excellent balance after the catch as he breaks the tackle for the touchdown.

Overall Breakdown

Displays tremendous ability to make quick reads and cut up the field. Powerful runner that shows excellent ability to get north and south. Shows excellent ability as a receiver. Displays excellent balance to recover after a missed tackle. Jacobs has average ability in pass protection situations. Must play with more balance and engage the pass rush.

Draft Round Prediction

First Round

Josh Jacobs is an excellent one-cut style running back that looks for contact. Coupled with his receiving ability, Jacobs is a prospect that can have an immediate impact on an NFL roster.

Kyler Murray

Height: 5’10

Weight: 195 lbs

2018 Heisman Trophy. 2018 Davey O’Brien Award. 2018 Walter Camp Player Of The Year Award Finalist. 2018 First-Team All-American by AP and FWAA. 2018 Big-12 Offensive Player Of The Year. Consensus Five-Star Recruit.

What I Like:

Arm Accuracy

Kyler Murray shows an excellent ability to place this ball where only the receiver can make a play on it. Displays an above average ability to throw with anticipation and throw the receiver open.

What I Dislike:

Pocket Poise

Kyler Murray displays average pocket poise, especially on this 3rd and long play. Must show more awareness in the pocket to succeed at the next level, especially for someone with his pocket escapability.

Acceleration

Kyler Murray displays a stellar ability to escape the pocket and run for extra yardage. Shows above average ability to read the field and pick the right running lanes. On this play, Murray makes several great reads and shows excellent acceleration to run up the field for the touchdown.

Overall Breakdown

Kyler Murray displays excellent arm accuracy to place the football where only his receiver can make a play on it. Also shows excellent ability to throw a receiver open and anticipate the route. Has a stellar ability to escape the pocket and run for additional yards. Shows above average ability to read the field and find running lanes. Murray shows average pocket poise ability. Must improve his awareness inside the pocket and trust his instincts at the next level. May struggle to pickup complex defenses at the next level.

Draft Round Prediction

First-to-Second Round

Kyler Murray has an offer to play professional baseball for Oakland Athletics, which could influence his decision. I don’t believe that Murray will slip past the 15th pick, but he hasn’t announced that he will commit to the NFL. A team could use Kyler Murray much like the Baltimore Ravens have used Lamar Jackson.

2019 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf

Published

on

Image Via Super Talk Mississippi

D.K. Metcalf

Height: 6’4

Weight: 225 lbs

2018 Biletnikoff Award Watch List. 2018 Preseason Second-Team All-SEC by Phil Steele. 2018 Preseason Second-Team All-SEC by Lindy’s. 1,228 career receiving yards, 67 career receptions, and 14 career touchdowns.

What I Like:

Catch Radius

It’s the first play of the game, but D.K. Metcalf displays a tremendous catch radius on this play. Metcalf also displays an excellent ability to fight through press coverage off the line of scrimmage and create the separation needed for the QB to deliver the perfect throw.

What I Dislike:

Concentration

On this play, Metcalf drops a simple pass-and-catch type of throw from the quarterback. Much of this can be taken care of through coaching at the next level, but it’s still a concern of mine.

Balance

This was a terrific effort from D.K. Metcalf. Shows great ability to create separation on the route, and even though the throw is late, he’s able to track the ball in traffic and make the catch. Displays stellar balance on his way to the end zone, as well as a nice move to fake the defensive back.

Overall Breakdown

D.K. Metcalf is a top-level wide receiver in this draft class. Shows excellent ability to create separation throughout the route. Displays excellent footwork and use of hands to fight through press coverage. Shows excellent balance and a second gear to fight for extra yardage. Must work on concentration and shows consistent effort on all routes and catches.

Draft Round Prediction

First Round

In my first Mock Draft of the year, I had Metcalf off the board at 19 to the Titans. I certainly believe that he’s a first round prospect, it’s just a matter of finding a team with a receiver need in the first round. I think it’s unlikely that we see a team tree up for him, but rather he just fits into the needs of a specific team.
