Montez Sweat Scouting Report

What I Like:

EDGE Rusher

I love the effort from Montez Sweat on this play. On the snap, Sweat has the leverage on the tackle. He displays an excellent ability to drive through the tackle, force him off-balance, and sneak around him on the outside. From there, he’s able to disrupt the pocket and force the quarterback to make a hurried throw.

What I Dislike:

Physicality

This was only one play from the game, but Montez Sweat had a tough time against the right tackle. The right tackle was able to play more physically than Sweat, and more importantly, play with more anger. I just wish Montez Sweat played more physically against him.

Fighting Through Double-Teams

Montez Sweat had a tremendous game against Arkansas in 2017. On this play, Sweat displays an excellent ability to work his way back inside and challenge the tackle to keep up. The fullback offers some support before running an out in the flat, but it’s no use.

Overall Breakdown

Montez Sweat displays stellar abilities as a defensive end. Shows an excellent ability to impose his will against lineman. Displays an above average bend and flex on the outside. Shows excellent patience to work around the tackle and attack the ball. Must show more physicality and play with more anger. Shows inconsistent physical moves that he must shore up.

Draft Round Prediction

Late-First to Second Round

An excellent week at the Senior Bowl did a lot to boost Montez Sweat’s draft stock. If he can couple that with a successful showing at the NFL Combine, I don’t think it’s out of the question to see him come off the board in the late teens.
