2022 NFL Draft: Arizona Cardinals Team Needs And Draft Picks

Arizona Cardinals 2022 Team Needs

1.  EDGE

The Cardinals signed J.J. Watt in the offseason, but his impact, as well as his durability, remain a concern. By addressing the position now, it will give Arizona the flexibility to be patient as they develop a pass rusher. Given the number of top-ranked EDGE rushers in this class, it would make sense for the Cardinals to select one of them with their first round selection.

2.  Wide Receiver

With A.J. Green’s deal set to void in the offseason, along with Christian Kirk in the final year of his contract, the Arizona Cardinals will need to address the position in the offseason. The franchise could look at drafting a receiving tight end, but will still need to find role players to surround DeAndre Hopkins.

3.  Cornerback

The Cardinals lost Patrick Peterson in free agency to the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason. Despite this, they’re still one of the best in terms of defending the pass. However, depth at the position is a need for Arizona. It’s something that they might look at addressing in free agency, rather than using a draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Furthermore, Byron Murphy Jr, one of the franchise’s starting cornerbacks, is set to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2022 season. If the organization isn’t sold on retaining him long-term, they could use next season to develop an eventual replacement.

4.  Defensive Line

With Zach Allen and JJ Watt both set to hit free agency in 2023, along with nose tackle Corey Peters set to become a free agent in the offseason, the Cardinals are going to have to address the defensive line this offseason. I have EDGE listed as their top priority this offseason, but they could look at finding a versatile defensive lineman that’s capable of playing inside, too.

5.  Running Back

James Conner has been a solid pickup for the Cardinals, but he also came to Arizona on a one-year contract. Finding an impactful three-down back might not be their top priority this offseason, but it sure would go a long ways in opening up their offense. Furthermore, it would take some pressure off of QB Kyler Murray, which, in my opinion, is much needed at this point.
