After five seasons and 44 starts at offensive tackle for Western Kentucky, Spencer transferred to Texas Tech where he missed his first season due to injury. In 2023, Spencer was moved to guard, his first time in the interior. He showed out at the Big 12 Pro Day, putting up a 4.89 40-yard dash (would’ve been the best of all OL at combine) , 30 1/2 inch vertical (T-18th combine), 31 bench press reps, and a 9-foot 4-inch broad jump (T-5th combine). Spencer will be 25 years old by the time next season starts, and he has had a long history of extensive injuries, but when he is on the field, he has flashed at times. Below is our 2024 NFL Draft prospect spotlight on Texas Tech IOL Cole Spencer.
Name: Cole Spencer
Position: OL
School: Texas Tech
Height: 6030
Weight: 307
Strengths:
- Impressive 2021 Tape
- Strong hands, if he gets attached he tends to stay connected
- Solid play IQ, always looking for work in the pass game and handles combo blocks in the run game well
- Very solid outing at the Big 12 Pro Day, earned an 8.57 on the RAS (Relative Athletic Score)
Areas For Development:
- Too much lean, bends at the hips and not knees
- Loses at the point of contact sometimes, does not provide great “pop” on pulling plays
- Feet are not quick, short-area twitchy-ness could be improved
- Will be 25 years old during rookie season, lengthy injury history
Draft Projection: 7th-UDFA
Outlook: After watching film from his 2021 season, I feel confident saying he would’ve been a Day-3 lock had he joined the 2021 NFL Draft. That being said, after numerous injuries and returning to college for another two seasons, one of which he missed due to injury, I feel his current draft outlook is lower. He looked much more fluid at tackle and pre-injuries, although if there is a chance of tapping into his Western Kentucky form, he’s worth the chance of competing at a training camp.
