Although the Houston Baptist University football team struggled in their shortened 2020 season, their quarterback Bailey Zappe began his case to be selected in the NFL Draft. In that 4 game season, Zappe in just four games last season threw for 1,833 yards for 15 touchdowns and just 1 interception. After Zappe’s excellent 2020 campaign, he decided to forgo the NFL draft and enter the transfer portal. The 2021 Senior Bowl, against all odds, was a huge success amidst a worldwide pandemic. The week concluded with the National Team being able to hold on for a 27-24 victory over the American team. The Houston Baptist football program finished their COVID-19 shortened season October 10th with their only victory of the season over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. In 2018, the Kentucky Wildcats football team had their best season in program history. Their 10-win season that ended in a Citrus Bowl victory over Penn State, was one of their best seasons ever. In March, we were supposed to have the first ever exclusive Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) football combine. The idea, founded by NFL legend Deion Sanders, was built to highlight the HBCU NFL Draft Prospects. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, that combine was canceled. On top of that, COVID-19 is also taking away the fall season for these HBCU programs as well. The ability for these athletes to get recognized seems to be getting more difficult by the day.
