Houston Texans Hold Most Value In 2023 NFL Draft With Draft Order Set

The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions following their win over the Philadelphia Eagles. With the win, the 2023 NFL Draft full order is officially set, which you can view in full here. The Houston Texans, who hold the second overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, as well as the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, each hold 12 picks in the upcoming event. However, in addition to holding the most number of picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans also hold the highest value, which is set by The Harvard Sports Analysis Collective.

Understanding Value As It Pertains To The 2023 NFL Draft

Tankathon, which is a fantastic resource for all things sports drafts, put together this page breaking down 2023 NFL Draft power rankings and draft value. Using the chart created by HSAC, you can see that the Houston Texans possess the highest value. They’re also tied with Kansas City for holding the most draft picks at twelve. Six other teams hold double-digit draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Four teams hold the lowest amount of draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft at five. They’re the Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins. The Philadelphia Eagles, who lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, have six selections.

The Houston Texans hold a draft value of 1,485.4 in the 2023 NFL Draft. Seattle, Detroit, Chicago, Arizona, and Las Vegas all hold draft values over 1,000. Indianapolis, who hold the 4th overall pick, have a draft value of 930.1. Additionally, the four teams that hold the fewest amount of selections all have the lowest value.

Looking Ahead To The 2023 NFL Draft

Despite holding the most number of picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, I find it unlikely that both the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs will hold onto all of their picks.

Houston has a roster that needs to be fully rebuilt. A franchise quarterback, which is Houston’s top draft need, isn’t their only priority. Finding a defensive-centerpiece on the defensive line has to be prioritized as well. DeMeco Ryans was hired as the head coach of the Texans following the 49ers being eliminated from the Playoffs. With 12 picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, Houston has the ammunition to take a large dent out of their list of team needs.

Kansas City, fresh off their Super Bowl win, have a long list of impending free agents. Orlando Brown Jr, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Carlos Dunlap headline that list. While some of those holes can be filled in free agency, they’ll undoubtedly head into the 2023 NFL Draft with several needs. For a team that ended the season as the best in the league, it’s scary to think that they’ll likely only get better.
