2024 NFL Draft: Keon Coleman Draft Profile and Scouting Report
Keon Coleman began his collegiate career with the Michigan State Spartans. However, following two seasons in East Lansing, Coleman entered the transfer portal and found a new home with the Florida State Seminoles. Following a strong start to the season, Keon Coleman has put himself into the spotlight as a potential 2024 NFL Draft prospect.
Keon Coleman 40 Time
Projected 40 Time: 4.57 seconds
Keon Coleman is a junior wide receiver for the Florida State Seminoles. He spent the previous two seasons with Michigan State, where he showcased his speed and football IQ. Coleman typically plays the outside receiver position, although he can fill in at the slot, too. He has good height and solid weight for the WR position when compared to the NFL average. Additionally, our projected 40 time is slightly slower than league average, as well.
Keon Coleman has a good ability to read the defender and optimize his break at the top of his route to maximize the separation form the defender. Displays a good ability to sink his hips and explode at the top of the route to break away at the top of the route. Shows a very good ability to track the ball and adjust his body to keep the ball on his outside shoulder away from the defender. He has a good ability to find the open field with the ball in his hands and make defenders miss.
However, there are some inconsistencies that I’d like to see Keon Coleman improve upon. When he’s not the intended target on the play, I’d like to see him sell the route a bit more than he typically does. Displays adequate timing to climb the ladder to go up for balls in traffic. His ability to get in front of defenders to execute efficient blocks in space is adequate.
Recruiting Bio
Keon Coleman was a graduate of Opelousas Catholic School in Opelousas, Louisiana, where he played football for head coach Thomas David. As a college recruit, Coleman received a four-star ranking from On3, 247 Sports, and ESPN, while Rivals had him listed as a three-star prospect. Additionally, he scored an 89.67 in the On3 Industry Ranking.
Originally, Keon Coleman committed to play for the Kansas Jayhawks in July of 2020. However, four months later, he decommitted from the Jayhawks to open up his recruiting. He had offers from Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, and Florida State, among many other programs. It was predicted that Coleman would commit to the Tulane Green wave. However, he instead chose to commit to Michigan State, where he spent two seasons. In April of 2023, Keon Coleman announced his intention to enter the transfer portal. In May, it was announced that he would join the Florida State Seminoles.
Keon Coleman has an estimated NIL worth of $956,000.
