Tykee Smith joined the West Virginia Mountaineers as a member of their 2019 recruiting class. As a true freshman, he appeared in 12 games, making 8 starts, which came mostly as a slot corner. He finished that season with 50 total tackles, which included 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 4 pass breakups, and forced a fumble. The following season, he put up a career best 89.7 coverage score, according to PFF. Smith also put up 61 total tackles that season, 8 of which were tackles for a loss. He transferred to Georgia following the 2020 season, which was highlighted by 4 interceptions in 2023, as well as one of his best years as a consistent player on the Bulldogs defense, as well as two years of a reception percentage in the mid 50’s in 2022 and 2023.
