Bio
2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report: South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler was once one of the hottest names in college football, a #1 quarterback prospect in the country committed to Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma. His first season as a starter there, 2020, was a breakout season as Rattler pushed Oklahoma through the Big 12 Championship and looked the part of a first-overall pick. However, he was benched against Texas for Caleb Williams and took a back seat the rest of the season before transferring to South Carolina.
Spencer Rattler 40 Time
Official 40 Time: 4.95 seconds
Rattler’s strength is in his arm, he has a very good arm and can push the ball with velocity across the field. With a quick release, Rattler looks every bit of the part with his arm. His accuracy is typically good, not great. While the statistics can be a bit misleading at his time at Oklahoma, he flashes extraordinary placement from time to time. He maneuvers the pocket well and is a very capable athlete who can gash defenses moving down field.
While he can push the ball with velocity, he seemed to lack a lot of touch in the SEC, throwing every pass with a lot of heat and almost regressing at South Carolina. His footwork is still inconsistent and his plant angle looks wider than it should be. While he flashes improv and the ability to extend plays, he’s not extraordinary at it. Most times, Rattler seems to think he’s a better player than he is and doesn’t appear to know his limits.
