2024 NFL Draft: Michigan RB Blake Corum Draft Profile and Scouting Report
Many analysts and NFL executives were surprised when Michigan running back Blake Corum elected to return to school for one more season, playing into the Wolverine’s hopes of competing once again for a National Championship. While his size is not enticing compared to recent great running backs, Corum has a unique style to his game where he can be productive as both a runner and a receiver and has the speed to outrun NFL secondaries if he gets into space.
Blake Corum 40 Time
Official 40 Time: 4.53 seconds
Blake Corum is a ridiculous athlete, showing both incredible quickness and speed. He has the explosion and acceleration to be dangerous anytime the ball is in his hands. I like the way he reads creases, and he isn’t overly patient as a runner, looking to hit a crease as soon as he can see one. He’s solid between the tackles and in space and is a “home-run threat,” a guy who can go the distance any given play. As a receiver, he has good hands and is a strong route runner. He offers suitable pass protection ability and on top of that, is surprisingly sturdy.
I haven’t found many negative parts to his game, or things that I would consider “improves.” The first issue is his size. He’s not a big guy and traditionally smaller running backs like Corum have been limited to specialty roles. Corum will have to prove against the mantra here, and now he has a bit of an injury history to overcome as well.
Recruiting Bio
Blake Corum was a four-star recruit coming from St. Francis Academy in Laurel, Maryland, in the Class of 2020, holding a 93.42 grade on On3’s Industry Rankings. He held offers from 28 schools, including Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Tennessee, North Carolina, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, and USC, among many others.
As a senior in High School, Corum attended the Nike DC event where he tested with some out-of-this-world numbers, running his forty-yard dash in 4.45 seconds and leaping 34 inches vertically. He ran for 1438 yards and 22 touchdowns, earning the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Maryland, as well as the Baltimore Sun’s Player of the Year.
Corum is valued at $1.1M in NIL, including endorsement deals with YOKE, Outback Steakhouse, Subway, the Michigan Army National Guard, Next Gen Camps, and The 33rd Team. He’s ranked as the 23rd most valuable athlete in college sports, and the 17th most valuable college athlete.
