Strengths

  • Cannon of an arm. Will be among the top five strongest arms upon entry to the NFL.
  • Release is quick and effortless.
  • Offers some ability as a powerful runner but doesn’t look to run first.

Weaknesses

  • Overall accuracy leaves a lot to be desired, especially on his deep ball.
  • Flashed good movement in the pocket but isn’t natural or consistent.
  • Doesn’t throw well outside of the pocket.

2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Tennessee QB Joe Milton III

Joe Milton enters 2023 as the presumed starter at the University of Tennessee. He is mostly a pocket passer who offers the ability to move around and gash defenses with a Cam Newton-size body. Don’t get it twisted, he will not be a Cam Newton-type athlete, but he can use his body to be physical and can absorb some punishment.

Projected 40 Time: 4.71 seconds.

Milton’s strength is in his arm. He has a cannon and can stretch the field almost effortlessly. His arm is among the best I have personally scouted and pops off of the tape at you immediately. His release is just as quick and effortless, it looks impressive.

The issue throughout his career this far has been getting the ball to playmakers consistently, oftentimes overshooting open receivers by several yards. His touch ball could use some work as well as he struggles to throw with it, relying completely on his arm. His accuracy improved in 2022 and we expect to continue to see that improvement in 2023. He has the mobility to move outside of the pocket but doesn’t throw nearly as well off platform.

Recruiting Bio

Joe Milton was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2018 with a 90.90 grade from On3’s Industry Rankings. He attended Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida. He performed in the Elite 11 quarterback camp and Nike 2017 The Opening Regional combine. Completed 90-of-188 passes for 1,317 yards and ten touchdowns with six interceptions as a senior.

Milton enrolled at Michigan in 2018 and earned his bachelor’s degree in three years. He transferred to Tennessee following the COVID season and was named the starter at the beginning of the season.

Joe Milton is valued to be worth an estimated $547k in NIL value. He’s represented by the Spyre Sports Group and has an endorsement with Engage.
