Texas A&M’s Edgerrin cooper joined the aggies as a member of the 2020 recruiting class. As a freshman, he played in all 10 games, although he finished the season with just 2 tackles. Cooper took on a larger role with the defense in 2021, ranking fourth on the team with 58 total tackles, along with 1 interception. Edgerrin Cooper made 8 starts for the Aggies through 11 appearances, where he finished with 61 total tackles, which included 8 tackles for a loss. His best season came in 2023 as a redshirt junior, where he finished with 84 total tackles, which included 17 tackles for a loss and 8 sacks. Cooper displays good quickness and acceleration to corner and attack the quarterback off the edge. Shows very good movement when dropped into coverage with above average lateral agility. He’s aggressive with his hands to eliminate the opponent’s leverage and attack the ball at the second level.

However, I would like to see tighter coverage from him versus the tight end or running back on short and intermediate routes. At times, he’s struggled to read and identify the ball in traffic from the second level. He will overplay the read-option at times, creating a large cushion behind him for routes across the middle of the field.
