2024 NFL Draft: Jonathon Brooks Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Jonathon Brooks appeared in four games in 2021 before redshirting. He was used as a reserve in 2022 as a redshirt freshman, rushing for 6.6 yards per carry and 5 touchdowns. Had a breakout season in 2023 with additional reps and a starting role, rushing for 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns. However, a torn ACL in the Big 12 championship shutdown his redshirt sophomore campaign.

Jonathon Brooks is a redshirt sophomore that was the lead runner for the University of Texas Longhorns. He’s an explosive runner whose abilities in the backfield helped push the Longhorns into the College Football Playoff until a knee injury ended his season. Measurements at the NFL Combine checked the boxes, but did not participate in agility drills due to 2023 ACL injury. Has one season of production on tape as he had a breakout season in 2023 before the knee injury derailed his sophomore campaign.

Brooks is a smooth operator in the backfield. He’s patient enough to let the play develop before exploding through the gap for yardage upfield. Maintains very solid contact balance across entire field to remain upright after first contact. Continues to drive with his feet when engaged with the defender to push for more yardage. He’s like a mountain bike with a myriad of gears, which he uses across multiple levels of the field to elude defenders.

His lateral agility can be a bit narrow at times and struggles to scan for open space quickly when out of the backfield. When he breaks off a deep run, I’d describe him as a gas guzzling Jeep Wrangler with a poor mpg. His feet can get a bit wide when trying to make defenders miss in the open field.

Recruiting Bio

Jonathon Brooks graduated from Hallettsville High School in Hallettsville, Texas, where he played football for head coach Tommy Psencik. He also participated in basketball and track and field. Out of high school, On3, 247Sports, and Rivals had Brooks ranked as a four-star prospect, while ESPN ranked him at three-stars. He scored a 90.44 in the On3 Industry ranking system, where he was ranked as a top 25 running back in the country.

Prior to committing to Texas, Jonathon Brooks had offers from UTSA, Texas Tech, and Louisiana. In May of 2020, Brooks committed to Texas, with his letter of intent being signed in December of 2020. He officially enrolled at the University of Texas in July of 2021.

He has an estimated NIL worth of $530,000. He has reported deals with the Texas One Fund.
