2024 NFL Draft: Quinyon Mitchell Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Quinyon Mitchell joined the University of Toledo as a freshman in the class of 2020. As a true freshman, he appeared in six games and finished the year with 7 total tackles, but maintained freshman eligibility due to COVID rules. The following season, Mitchell started all 13 games at corner, where he finished with 34 total tackles, including 1 sack, along with 8 passes defended and 1 forced fumble. He finished with 41 total tackles in 2022 and 2023, credited with 25 passes defended according to school website in 2022, as well as 5 interceptions that season. Accepted an invitation to play in the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Quinyon Mitchell 40 Time

Official 40 Time: 4.33 seconds

Quinyon Mitchell is a four-year contributor at cornerback for the Toledo Rockets, with three years of starting experience. He has solid height and weight for the cornerback position when compared to the league average. He ran an impressive 4.33 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine, which was over a tenth quicker than the league average for cornerbacks.

Quinyon Mitchell has solid range to reach the ball carrier from an intermediate distance with ease. He’s a patient tackler that will square up the ball carrier and wrap-up securely for the tackle. His ability to mirror the receiver in man coverage is some of the best in this draft class as he won’t bite often on moves from the opponent. At the catch point, he gets his hands into tight spaces to break the passes up. If he loses ground off the line of scrimmage, he has an excellent recovery ability to regain that lost ground. Additionally, he can hold his own as a nickel corner in the slot. Ultimately, I would describe Quinyon Mitchell as a corner that is superglued to the target.

However, I do find on film that he can get a touch lazy with his technique when he’s attacking a less-athletic ball carrier. This can lead to him panicking and overcompensating in coverage. I’d also like to see him be more aggressive on the line of scrimmage to affect the timing of the route.

Recruiting Bio

Quinyon Mitchell graduated from Williston High School in Williston, Florida, where he played football and participated in track and field. 247Sports and ESPN had him ranked as a three-star prospect out of high school, while Rivals ranked him as a two-star prospect. Prior to his commitment to Toledo, he had offers from Florida Atlantic, South Florida, South Alabama, and several others. Quinyon Mitchell committed to Toledo in June of 2018.
