2024 NFL Draft: Jonah Elliss Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Jonah Elliss was a University of Utah commit for the class of 2021. As a true freshman, Elliss was a reserve player and special teams contributor, finishing the season with 15 tackles and 1 sack. The following season, in 2022, Jonah Elliss took on a larger role for the Utes, playing in 11 games, of which he started in 8 of them. Elliss became a full-time starter for Utah in 2023, where he totaled 37 tackles, including 16 for a loss, and 12 sacks. However, an injury ended his season prematurely as he missed the final three games.

Jonah Elliss 40 Time

Projected 40 Time: 4.70 seconds

Jonah Elliss is a three-year contributor on the defensive line for the University of Utah. He splits his time between defensive end and outside linebacker, although I think he primarily fits as an outside linebacker in the NFL. He made the switch from linebacker to defensive end for the 2022 season, but took more reps at outside linebacker in 2023. He is a bit undersized to play defensive end, but his height is solid for the linebacker position when compared to the league average, as is his weight. Our projected 40 time of 4.70 is on par with the outside linebacker position, while slightly quicker than most defensive ends.

Jonah Elliss displays combative hands at the line of scrimmage against offensive tackles. He plays aggressively to beat his opponent and collapse the pocket from the edge. He’s a high motor rusher with an array of moves to beat the offensive line. Shows a good ability to drive through the defender to collapse the pocket with his bull rush ability.

However, I don’t see an elite level of bend off the edge from him. I would also like to see a more consistent effort off the edge. Finally, I’d like to see the same level of effort when the ball carrier is in front of him as when he’s starting his rep off the line of scrimmage.

Recruiting Bio

Jonah Elliss graduated from Moscow Senior High School in Moscow, Idaho. Out of high school, he was a consensus three-star recruiting prospect. Jonah comes from an athletic family, as his father Luther played for 10 seasons in the NFL, his brother Kaden plays for the Atlanta Falcons, and has two brothers that play for Idaho. He scored an 83.53 in the On3 Industry Ranking, which put him outside of the top 1,000, but he was listed as the top prospect out of the state of Idaho.

Prior to his commitment to Utah, Jonah Elliss had offers from Boise State, Washington State, and Louisville, among several others. He committed to Utah in August of 2020, with a letter of intent coming that December. He officially enrolled at Utah in May of 2021.

He has an estimated NIL worth of $533,000. He has a reported deal with the Crimson Collective.
