2024 NFL Draft: Cole Bishop Draft Profile and Scouting Report
Cole Bishop joined the University of Utah in 2021, where he saw significant playing time as a true freshman. He played in 10 games that season, six of which were starts, and finished with nearly 400 snaps. That season, he had 54 total tackles, 3 of which were sacks, 5 pass breakups, and recovered 1 fumble. Bishop was a full-time starter in 2022, where he finished with 83 total tackles, 1 interception, and 3 passes defended. He finished up the 2023 season as a Jim Thorpe Award Semifinalist, a Second Team All-American (CFN), and three-time Pac-12 All-Conference.
Cole Bishop 40 Time
Projected 40 Time: 4.50 seconds
Cole Bishop is a three-year contributor at safety for the Utah Utes. He’s a ball hawking free safety with talent to play long-term in the NFL. He possesses good height and solid weight for the safety position when compared to the league average. Our projected 40 time of 4.50 seconds is slightly quicker than the league average, too.
Cole Bishop has fluid movement to change direction quickly and laterally when in coverage. Shows to have an excellent quickness, determination, and motor when dropped into coverage. When he’s asked to pass rush, he displays tremendous quickness and twitch to beat offensive linemen quickly to collapse the pocket.
However, I would like to see him shore up some inconsistencies with tackling, as evidenced by his game film. He has good range, but can get ahead of himself at times, overcorrecting when chasing the ball.
Recruiting Bio
Cole Bishop graduated from Starr’s Mill High School in Fayetteville, Georgia. He was a consensus three-star recruiting prospect out of high school, according to the major outlets. He scored an 86.23 in the On3 Industry Ranking, putting him in the 700’s nationally.
Prior to his commitment, Bishop had offers from Stanford, Georgia Tech, and Vanderbilt. He originally committed to play at Duke in March of 2020, however he decommitted later that year in October. A few weeks later, Cole Bishop announced that he would commit to play football at the University of Utah. He signed his letter of intent in December, with his enrollment coming in January of 2021.
