2024 NFL Draft: Sione Vaki Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Sione Vaki committed to the University of Utah in 2019, but went on a two-year mission trip before enrolling in school. In 2022, Vaki played in all 14 games, making 5 starts, and ended the season with 41 total tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 3 passes defended. The following season, Vaki played at safety, while also being used as a playmaker on offense. He finished 2023 with 51 total tackles, 8.5 of which were for a loss, 1 interception, and 2 pass breakups. He also ended 2023 with 5 touchdowns on offense. At the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl, Sione Vaki also took reps at wide receiver in practice.

Sione Vaki 40 Time

Projected 40 Time: 4.50 seconds

Sione Vaki is a two-year player for the University of Utah Utes. He primarily plays the safety position, but has spent time at linebacker, running back, and took reps at wide receiver during the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl. He possesses good height and weight for the safety position when compared to the league average. Our projected 40 time of 4.50 seconds is slightly quicker than the league average, too.

Sione Vaki displays a very good ability to read the ball and attack from across the field. Shows to have excellent range to reach the ball from an intermediate distance. Vaki has a high football IQ, finding a way to put himself in the right position more often than not. Played a lot of time from inside the box, playing efficient football as an off-ball outside linebacker.

However, there are times on film where he’s struggled to mirror the WR in motion at the line of scrimmage. The film also shows times where he can get drawn into running backs in the flats, leaving a very large cushion behind him wide open.

Recruiting Bio

Sione Vaki graduated from Liberty high School in Brentwood, California. He committed to play football at Utah as part of their 2019 recruiting class, but didn’t enroll until 2022 due to a two-year mission trip. He was a consensus three-star recruit out of high school, according to all of the major outlets. Sione Vaki scored an 85.07 in the On3 Industry Ranking, putting him in the 800’s nationally.

Prior to committing to Utah, Sione Vaki also had an offer from Tennessee. USC, and Washington State. Following visits to Utah State and Washington State, Vaki visited Utah, with a commitment to the Utes coming a few days later. He signed his letter of intent in February of 2019, but did not attend Utah until 2022 due to a mission trip.
