2024 NFL Draft: Tyrice Knight Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Tyrice Knight is an inside linebacker for the University of Texas at El Paso. He’s a ball hawk on defense that always seems to be in on the play for the Miners. In 2020, Knight made 6 starts for UTEP, playing in 8 total. He became a full-time starter for the university in 2021. Over his last three seasons for UTEP, he has over 300 total tackles, including 2 interceptions, 16 pass breakups, and 4 forced fumbles. He capped off his collegiate career with an invite to the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Tyrice Knight 40 Time

Projected 40 Time: 4.80 seconds

Following two seasons at Independence Community College, Tyrice Knight has spent the last 4 seasons of college ball at UTEP, playing inside linebacker for the Miners. He possesses solid height and weight for the position when compared to the league average in the NFL. Our projected 40 time of 4.80 seconds is slightly slower than the average, but not by much.

Knight displays excellent awareness to get his hands up at the line of scrimmage to affect the quarterback’s vision. Shows to have a good ability to read the ball in traffic and attack the ball carrier with efficient angles and quickness. He’s a high motor rusher that won’t give up on plays until the whistle is blown. Moves well laterally when dropped into coverage to mirror and stay within range on short routes across the field.

However, I would like to see him remain more patient at the line of scrimmage to let plays develop before attacking gaps. Despite the high tackle stats, there are some inconsistencies in his tackling ability. Has shown flashes of struggling to stay with his target on intermediate routes downfield or outside the numbers.

Recruiting Bio

Tyrice Knight graduated from Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Florida. Out of high school, Knight was a two-star prospect according to Rivals and ESPN, while 247Sports gave him a three-star rating. He scored 78.25 in the On3 Industry Ranking system. Following two seasons, Tyrice Knight transferred to the University of Texas at El Paso.

According to On3, Tyrice Knight also had an offer to play for Jacksonville State. In December of 2019, Knight committed to play for UTEP and signed his letter of intent shortly thereafter. He officially enrolled in August of 2020.
