Bio

2025 NFL Draft: Georgia EDGE Mykel Williams Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Mykel Williams is a versatile defensive lineman that plays for the University of Georgia Bulldogs. His aggressive and combative hands are the first trait that pops on film when you watch him, as well as his relentless pursuit. He’s been a consistent presence for the Bulldogs off the edge, but still a raw prospect that needs to develop further to be successful long-term.

Mykel Williams 40 Time

Projected 40 Time: 4.57 seconds

Mykel Williams is a three-year contributor on the defensive line for the University of Georgia. He possesses a solid frame to play the position in the NFL. Our projected 40 time of 4.57 second sis much quicker than the league average for the position in the NFL. I have Williams listed as an edge prospect, with the ability to play defensive end or outside linebacker.

Mykel Williams plays with aggressive hands, which he used to stun the defender and collapse the pocket with ease. His athleticism gives him the versatility to play a variety of positions across the defensive line, which Georgia relied heavily upon. Williams is a nuisance off the edge and won’t give up on a play until the whistle is blown. He’s able to track the ball in the trenches and attacks when he finds an open path to the ball carrier. When defending the run, Mykel Williams has good awareness of where the ball carrier is located, even when he’s engaged with an offensive lineman. When playing snaps at outside linebacker, Williams displays the abilities to drop into zone or man coverage and hold his own versus short-to-intermediate routes.

He possesses an array of tools on his utility belt to beat offensive linemen, but needs to refine them and improve upon his timing. At Georgia, Mykel Williams was lined up against interior offensive linemen. However, I don’t believe that this projects as a positive for him. Therefore, I believe that NFL defensive coordinators will keep him at defensive end or outside linebacker.

Recruiting Bio

Mykel Williams was a five-star recruiting prospect from Hardaway High School in Columbus, Georgia, where he played for head coach Corey Thompson. He was ranked in the mid-twenties by ESPN, but all other major recruiting outlets had Mykel Williams ranked as a top ten recruiting prospect in the nation. As a result, Williams had offers from most of the major programs in the country.

In June of 2021, Mykel Williams announced his commitment to the University of Southern California. However, in October, Williams visited the University of Georgia and announced that he would flip his commitment to the Bulldogs. He enrolled at Georgia in January of 2022.
