2025 NFL Draft: Miami QB Cam Ward Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Cam Ward burst onto the scene in 2022 when he transferred into the Washington State program. He began playing college ball at Incarnate Word, an FCS program. We’ve seen consistent improvement each season from him. After two seasons playing for the Cougars, Ward entered the transfer portal for a second time, finding his way to the University of Miami Hurricanes and the ACC Conference.

Cam Ward 40 Time

Projected 40 Time: 4.77 seconds

Cam Ward is a four-year starter at quarterback. He currently plays for the University of Miami, but began playing college ball at Incarnate Word, with a stop at Washington State in-between. He has shown improvement each season in college and has now put himself in position to be a top draft pick. Ward is a bit undersized when compared to the league average for quarterbacks, but only by an inch. Our projected 40 time of 4.77 seconds is slightly quicker than the average.

Ward shows to have good accuracy to fit the ball into tight windows, especially those up the seam. His velocity is strong enough to push the ball upfield and into tight coverage. Ward displays very solid pocket presence and doesn’t panic when pressure is looming. He’s capable of escaping the pocket to extend plays by climbing the upfield, or escaping laterally.

However, there are a few issues on film for Cam Ward. For instance, his footwork can get sloppy when he’s having to progress through to his third or fourth read. He struggles with accuracy on short and intermediate slant routes across the middle of the field. Finally, while he is capable of extending plays with his legs, he lacks the quickness to outrun most defenders.

Recruiting Bio

Cam Ward graduated from Columbia High School in West Columbia, Texas, where he played football for head coach Brent Mascheck. He was a two-sport athlete, also participating in basketball. Out of high school, Cam Ward didn’t receive many offers. However, he did receive an offer from Incarnate Word, an FCS program.

Following the 2021 season, Ward entered the transfer portal and joined the Washington State Cougars. After two seasons at WSU, Cam Ward entered the transfer portal for a second time, finding his way to the University of Miami Hurricanes.
