2025 NFL Draft: Michigan CB Will Johnson Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Will Johnson stepped into the spotlight in 2022 as a freshman, where he finished the season with 3 interceptions and 3 pass breakups. He backed up that performance the following season, with high hopes headed into 2024. Unfortunately, injuries have kept him off the field for most of the season this year. If he declares for the 2025 NFL Draft, Will Johnson should come off the board within the first fifteen picks.

Will Johnson 40 Time

Projected 40 Time: 4.48 seconds

Will Johnson is a three-year contributor at cornerback for the University of Michigan Wolverines. He possesses good height and solid weight when compared against the league average for the position in the NFL. Our projected 40 time of 4.48 seconds is right at the league average.

On film, Will Johnson shows to have good range to close on the receiver from zone coverage to affect the ball at the catchpoint. He mirrors receivers quite well on short and intermediate routes outside the numbers. Johnson plays with high awareness to recognize the play quickly and undercut routes to breakup the pass or intercept the ball.

However, it appears to be a struggle for him to tackle ball carriers in space. When defending the run, he can get lazy with his mechanics and rely on putting his head down and using his body to constrict space, rather than driving through his target. In my opinion, he needs to play with more aggressive use of hands on the line of scrimmage when he’s in press coverage to stun the receiver and disrupt the timing of the route.

Recruiting Bio

Will Johnson was a five-star recruiting prospect out of Grosse Pointe South High School in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where he played football for head coach Tim Brandon. Rivals had Johnson listed as the 5th player nationally, while other recruiting outlets had him ranked in the top 40.

Prior to his commitment to play at Michigan, Will Johnson had offers from top programs in the SEC, ACC, and Big Ten. In February of 2021, Johnson announced his commitment to Michigan. He officially enrolled at school in January of 2022.
