2025 NFL Draft: Michigan TE Colston Loveland Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Colston Loveland burst onto the scene in 2023 as a sophomore tight end for the Michigan Wolverines. That season, he finished with 45 receptions for 649 yards and 4 touchdowns. That season, he helped lead the Wolverines to an undefeated season, capped off with the National Championship in the College Football Playoff. This season, Loveland has battled through injuries, missing several games, but has remained impactful when on the field for Michigan.

Colston Loveland 40 Time

Projected 40 Time: 4.67 seconds

Colston Loveland is a three-year contributor at tight end for the Michigan Wolverines. Played in 14 games as a true freshman, making several starts down the stretch. He’s a versatile player that can play outside as a wide receiver or inline as a blocking tight end. Possesses solid height and weight for the position when compared to the league average. Our projected 40 time of 4.67 second sis a tenth quicker than the position average.

Colston Loveland displays excellent quickness off the line of scrimmage. On tape, he’ll often beat linebackers off the line of scrimmage and up the seam as he stretches the field. His route running ability pops on tape as he runs routes like a seasoned wide receiver. He does a solid job of shedding blocks and leaking into the flat as a safety net. As a blocker, he’s capable of driving through defenders to block defenders in space and steer them to open up room. Additionally, he maintains good balance as a blocker and is capable of anchoring in pass protection.

However, he can struggle to make a significant impact as a lead run blocker up the middle. Further, I’d like to see him process quicker as an inline lead run blocker. As a receiver, he lacks the explosiveness as the top of his route to separate from the defender. Finally, I’d like to see him do a better job of reading the defense and sitting on coverage lulls outside the numbers.

Recruiting Bio

Colston Loveland graduated from Gooding High School in Gooding, Idaho, where he played football for head coach Cam Andersen. In addition to football, Loveland was also a First-Team All-Idaho basketball player. He played linebacker and tight end in high school. As a high school recruit, he was ranked four stars by On3, 247Sports, and Rivals. He scored a 90.50 On3 Industry Ranking, which was good enough for 268th nationally.

Prior to committing to Michigan, Colston Loveland had offers from Alabama, LSU, and Colorado, along with many others. In July of 2021, he announced his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines. He was an early-enrollee, joining the program in January of 2022.
