2025 NFL Draft: Ohio State OT Josh Simmons Draft Profile and Scouting Report

Josh Simmons first popped onto the scene in 2022 as an offensive tackle at San Diego State. He missed one game that season, but otherwise was the program’s anchor at left tackle. Following the 2022 season, Simmons transferred to Ohio State. His productivity increased with the Buckeyes, especially during the 2024 season. However, in mid-October of 2024, Josh Simmons suffered a left knee injury that ended his season.

Josh Simmons 40 Time

Projected 40 Time: 5.17 seconds

Josh Simmons is a three-year starter at left tackle. He spent the 2022 season at San Diego State before transferring to Ohio State. He possesses solid height and weight for the position when compared to the league average. Our projected 40 time of 5.17 seconds is slightly quicker than average.

As a left tackle, Simmons absorbs contact and anchors his feet very well. Out of his stance, he displays very good footwork to get out front of the defender without laboring. He processes the pass rush quickly and can handle an array of moves off the edge. Finally, he displays an athletic ability that allows him to reach second-level blocks when out front as a run blocker.

However, his hands can get a bit wide when facing bull rushes off the edge. At times, he flirts with the borderline of holding the defender off the edge. Additionally, he can struggle to engage the defender when blocking the run off the edge. As a result, some of his reps fail to last the entirety of the rep.

Recruiting Bio

Josh Simmons graduated from Helix High School in La Mesa, California. He was a four star recruit as ranked by ESPN and Rivals. He scored an 87.25 On3 Industry Ranking, which was good enough for 445th nationally.

In high school, Josh Simmons had offers from Oklahoma, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, along with many others. Originally, Simmons committed to Oregon. However, he chose to remain close to home and committed to San Diego State in January of 2021. Following two years at SDSU, one of which was a redshirt season, Simmons entered the transfer portal.

In April of 2023, Josh Simmons announced that he would transfer to Ohio State.
