The 2023 NFL Draft is one step closer as the regular season came to an end on Sunday. While the NFL Playoffs will determine the order for the final 14 picks of the NFL Draft, the first 18 are set in stone.
The Chicago Bears currently own the first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft following a loss against Minnesota, as well as a Houston win against the Colts. For the Texans, they’ll pick second in the NFL Draft, in which they’ll almost certainly be in the market for a franchise quarterback. However, they’ll also be doing so with a new head coach. Lovie Smith was fired by the organization following the team’s win over the Colts.
There are several teams in the top 10 that could be doing so with new personnel in the building. The Arizona Cardinals are likely to move on from GM Steve Keim. While they could also look to part with head coach Kliff Kingsbury, I find it unlikely.
The Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, and Carolina Panthers are also all in the market for a new head coach. For Indianapolis, we could also see a move at GM. While Jim Irsay has been adamant that Chris Ballard will be back in 2023, either party could look for a new opportunity.
Breaking Down The 2023 NFL Draft Order
There are several teams in the 2023 NFL Draft with multiple first round picks.
The Seattle Seahawks have a top five pick by way of the Russell Wilson trade with the Denver Broncos. The Detroit Lions have the Los Angeles Rams’ sixth pick in the 2023 NFL Draft as a result of the Matthew Stafford trade. The Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans also have multiple picks in the 2023 NFL Draft following trades with the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns.
Finally, there are several teams that are, once again, picking in the top ten of the NFL Draft. The Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, and Atlanta Falcons have all earned top ten picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. Additionally, the Detroit Lions had the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, although they finished with a much better record this season. Last year, the Chicago Bears finished with the seventh pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but that pick was owed to the New York Giants.
