In February, many of the nation’s top senior prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft class were showcased in Mobile, Alabama at the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl. Of those that participated, there were several that left the week as one of the top performers. One of those prospects was Tulane RB Tyjae Spears, who shined during the week of practices. As we’ll breakdown below, Tyjae Spears looks prepared to continue his rise up draft boards during the 2023 NFL Combine.
Tyjae Spears 40 Time
At the 2023 NFL Combine, Tyjae Spears should post a 40 time in the 4.4 range. This time would be slightly quicker than the league average for the position. However, the fastest 40 time for a running back at the NFL Combine is still owned by Chris Johnson. He posted a 4.24 40 time at the 2008 NFL Combine. The East Carolina RB was then selected by the Tennessee Titans with the 24th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
While Tyjae Spears is likely to be selected much later in the 2023 NFL Draft, he’s still one of the top 150 prospects in this class. According to our prediction, Spears is likely to be a day two prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft. Given that he was one of the top performers at the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl, a similar performance at the NFL Combine would do wonders for his draft stock. Additionally, so would a similar performance at the Tulane pro day.
