The University of Georgia Bulldogs are back in contention for another run at the College Football Playoff. A big part of the program’s success is their defense, led up front by defensive tackle Jalen Carter. As far as the 2023 NFL Draft goes, Jalen carter is predicted to be a top five pick, which will be backed up in this scouting report. In addition, we’ll also look at a 40 time for Jalen carter, as well as injury history, full scouting report, NFL Combine results, and a prediction for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Jalen Carter 40 Time
I have Georgia DT Jalen Carter set to post a 40 time in the 4.80 range. As a result, this would rank carter above the league average in the NFL for the position, which is just above the 5 second range.
On game film, Jalen Carter looks much quicker. He has excellent acceleration off the line of scrimmage and is often able to get the first step on offensive linemen.
Jalen Carter Injury History
Jalen Carter sustained an MCL injury during the first half of this season’s game against Missouri. He did not return to the game, and missed the next two games against Auburn and Vanderbilt. Following an off week, Carter returned to action against the Florida Gators on October 29th.
Jalen Carter Scouting Report
Pros
- Phenomenal Explosiveness Off The Line Of Scrimmage
- Identifies And Attacks The Ball Very Quickly
- Versatile Player Capable Of Playing Across The Defensive Line
Cons
- Late To Identify Double-Teams At The Snap
- Would Like To See A More Consistent Effort
- Lacks A Wide Array Of Pass Rush Moves In His Toolbelt
Jalen Carter is a three-year contributor on the defensive line for the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Considered by many NFL Draft analysts to be in consideration for a top five pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, should he declare. Carter has solid height and weight for the position, as they both measure in at the league average for the defensive tackle position. As far as a predicted 40 time of 4.80 range, that would be several tenths quicker than the league average.
He has very good speed off the line of scrimmage to attack the blocker and pressure the pocket. Displays a very good ability to identify and attack the ball. Shows very good athleticism to get off blocks and attack ball outside pocket or upfield. Maintains a low pad level off the snap to pressure the pocket. Carter has good body lean to bend and beat interior offensive linemen. Displays a good ability to shed blocks off the edge. Has very good hand placement to establish leverage against offensive linemen and pressure the pocket.
Has an adequate ability to identify double-teams off the line of scrimmage. Lacks a wide array of tools to beat offensive linemen with. Would like to see him incorporate more swim moves and spins into his pass rush. Displays an adequate motor, but would like to see more effort from him when he fails to beat the blocker on first contact.
Jalen Carter NFL Draft Projection
In my opinion, Georgia’s Jalen Carter is hands down a top five player in the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s a versatile player that’s capable of playing all along the defensive line, but fits best at the defensive tackle position.
Teams that should be taking a hard look at Jalen Carter should include the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders, and the Seattle Seahawks. I’m predicting that Carter’s draft stock will rise as the NFL Draft process moves forward, especially once pro drays are complete.
