Following the week three injury against Alabama, Wisconsin announced that starting QB Tyler Van Dyke would miss the remainder of the season with a full ACL tear in his right knee. The injury occurred on the first drive of the game as the two teams, both undefeated at the time, met as Wisconsin hosted the fourth-ranked Crimson Tide. Ultimately, the game wasn’t close as Alabama topped Wisconsin 42-10.
Tyler Van Dyke began his college career at the University of Miami, where he played a total of 35 games for the Hurricanes. After four seasons, Van Dyke announced in the offseason that he would enter the transfer portal, opting to join the Wisconsin Badgers for this season. Entering this season, Van Dyke won the starting QB job after a battle with redshirt sophomore Braedyn Locke, who transferred from Mississippi State following the 2023 season.
The timeline for Van Dyke’s recovery isn’t clear, but it was announced that he would miss the remainder of the 2024 season for the Badgers.

Many NFL Draft analysts had high expectations for Tyler Van Dyke following a strong performance as Miami’s starting QB in 2021. However, following lackluster performances in 2022 and 2023, Van Dyke entered the transfer portal. Personally, I thought a new home for Van Dyke might be the best thing for him and his draft stock. Unfortunately, the injury ended his season prematurely, which leaves Van Dyke’s future uncertain for now. If he chooses to take a medical redshirt, Tyler Van Dyke could be looking for his third team in as many years.
Braedyn Locke finished the game going 13/26 for 125 yards and one touchdown for the Badgers. Wisconsin has a bye this week before returning on September 28th when they visit the USC Trojans to open Big Ten conference play.
