2022 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Coastal WR Jaivon Heiligh

There’s no denying that the 2022 NFL Draft class is loaded at the wide receiver position. With prospects like Garrett Wilson and Treylon Burks at the top, it’s difficult for wide receivers to set themselves apart. While Coastal Carolina’s Jaivon Heiligh may not be a first round prospect when all is said and done, he’s still a talented prospect that has the skillset to remain in the league for a long time. In this 2022 scouting report, we’ll breakdown what makes Jaivon Heiligh a target for teams in the draft, as well as what his NFL future might look like over time.

Be sure to follow NFL Draft Lounge for more scouting report coverage, as well as more on Jaivon Heiligh. As always, you can find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Jaivon Heiligh 40 Time

I have Jaivon Heiligh poised to run a 40 time in the low 4.4 range. More specifically, I have him listed at 4.42. This would put Heiligh above the league average for the wide receiver position in the NFL. On game film, Jaivon Heiligh has excellent explosiveness and acceleration off the line of scrimmage to get upfield quickly. Further, he plays with excellent quickness out of his routes to create separation from the defender.

Jaivon Heiligh Injury History

Jaivon Heiligh has been solid injury-wise for the Coast Carolina Chanticleers. I cannot find any significant missed time throughout his collegiate career. As a result of this, he should receive a clean bill of health, as well as a green light, during the medical evaluation process at the NFL combine.

Jaivon Heiligh Scouting Report

Pros
  • Excellent Quickness Off The Line Of Scrimmage
  • Shows Good Explosiveness Out Of His Route To Create Separation
  • Intelligent Receiver That Identifies Lull In Coverage Quite Well
Cons
  • Occasionally Relies On Physical Contact To Create Separation From Defenders
  • Inconsistency In Identifying Defenders As A Blocker Out In Space
  • Needs To Flash His Second Gear More Consistently

Jaivon Heiligh is a four-year contributor for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. As a wide receiver, he typically lines up as an outside receiver that works between the sidelines and the numbers. Heiligh has good height and solid weight for the wide receiver position in the NFL. Additionally, his 4.42 predicted 40 time would be a good amount above the league average for the position.

Heiligh has good explosiveness off the line of scrimmage to accelerate quickly through the route’s stem. Features a good catch radius to secure passes away from his body, as well as those above his head. Locates the ball quickly out of his break with ease. Possesses a good second gear after securing the catch to accelerate upfield quickly. Does a solid job of fighting for additional yards after initial contact from defenders. Well-balanced route runner that’s capable of using body to create separation at the top of the route. Intelligent receiver that reads and identifies coverage and is capable of finding gaps in coverage to sit on. Finally, he doesn’t hear footsteps and secures passes in traffic with defenders looming.

Jaivon Heiligh will occasionally rely too heavily on physical contact at the top of the route to create separation from the defender. As a blocker out in space, he’s inconsistent in identifying defenders quickly and executing efficient blocks. While he possesses a second gear, I’d like to see him use it more consistently.

Jaivon Heiligh NFL Draft Projection

Ultimately, I have a mid-day three grade on Jaivon Heiligh. While he has traits that NFL front offices will look for, I have trouble identifying what he does better than other prospects in this draft class. He’s been invited to the East-West Shrine Game, which could go a long ways in improving his draft stock. Furthermore, so could a strong performance at the NFL Combine in March.

Look for Jaivon Heiligh to come off the draft board to a team in the market for an outside receiver. While he may begin his career as a depth piece on a franchise, I believe that he could eventually develop into a complimentary player. His speed and quickness would certainly be an asset to a franchise looking to take pressure off of their primary receiver.
